Lighthouse is a practical utility for giving in-field Encore team members access to the latest information and tools they need. It is 100% confidential, allowing employees to connect with their peers and our nation’s public safety agencies in the moments they need it.
Safely navigating a new environment, indoors or outdoors, can be challenging for people with vision loss. While orientation and mobility training, white canes or guide dogs are essential to help with navigation, new technologies can augment these tools by providing additional support, particularly in the form of digital maps.
NaviLens, a company that uses mobile phone cameras to scan buildings and transit stops, is one such technology. Their app then translates the scanned image into an audio map that can be used by blind or visually impaired users to navigate their route. GoodMaps also offers a digital mapping service that creates an augmented reality experience for the user, showing them their route and points of interest in real time, via a smartphone camera.
To complement this new capability, we’ve also made it easier for developers to get specific recommendations that are based on the tools they’re using to build their sites. You can run these checks in the DevTools audit panel, on the command line, or as a Node module. For example, if you’re using the Angular CLI, we now surface recommendations on how to optimize your code for performance, accessibility and progressive web apps.
